Philip Hornsey discovered contemporary percussion at McGill University with D’Arcy Gray and Pierre Béluse. After residencies in Germany and in Banff, he completed a master’s degree at the University of Montreal. A freelance percussionist with numerous Montreal orchestras, he places contemporary music at the heart of his calling, as demonstrated through his work with the Ensemble contemporain de Montréal, Bradyworks, Ensemble Kore, duo Kovalis and the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne. Hornsey also directs his own percussion and recording studio, Timpano Percussion. As a musician, he distinguishes himself through his desire to discover new sounds, and a curiosity about his audience members.
